I bought a townhouse last Feb. It turns out that I have more bills to pay than I anticipated. So the last thing I wanted is to have another bill of Wi-Fi service. So far, I have been depending on my phone as my Internet and I have survived surprisingly well. First, with a pair of reading glasses, I can browse web on my 5.5 phone with ease and pleasure. Nowadays, most websites have a mobile version, which is usually called m.something.com, for example, m.mitbbs.com and http://m.creaders.net/. In addition, the NEWS app on Windows phone has several hundred mobile-formatted stories at any moment. Another thing I need to mention is that the edge browser on the phone never refused to open any website for me, which is truly amazing. Of course, a laptop still beats a phone by a thousand miles in web-browsing. I also need to synchronize the files on my laptop in the apartment with my main computer in the office. For this, I just need to use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop. Everything just works as if I had a real Wi-Fi service, only at a slower but totally tolerable speed. I need to thank T-Mobile, whose "unlimited data plan" gives me 26 Gbytes of data each month. I can watch video and browse web with no worry about data limit at all. In fact, I may even cancel wifi service at my main home after my younger son leaves for college next year. (This diary is posted on my laptop powered by my phone's hotspot). |
