I have been researching for a new laptop. Now I finally made my decision. Here is the thought process leading to this decision.
I of course already have a few laptops. The purpose for this one is really to have a touch screen. My right hand often hurts by holding a mouse for too long. I am hoping that a touch screen will reduce the need of using a mouse or touch pad significantly. I also been using Win 8 laptop for half a year. I could really appreciate how much better my experience would be have been if I have a touch screen. The navigation is just so much more natural.
Having decided on touch, I now have to choose between screen size. Based on my research, touch works best when you and your laptop are very close to each other. A light-weighted 11.6 inch feels ideal for this. Of course, this decision is made much easier by the cloud integration of Win 8. I now store all my files on skydrive.com. So I can move from one laptop to another seamlessly. This 11.6 inch will be used to do light work and I can use a heavy duty machine for simulation without extra effort. That is: my small laptop does not need to be powerful at all.
About Win 8, that is no brainer. Basically, I use only two software for making a living: R and Microsoft Office. This little machine will provide it all. One life, one small machine and one happy statistician.
