还有两周，学生就要毕业了。今晨上班路上，脑子里哼起了李叔同填词的《送别》，自然而然想译配成英文告诉学生这首歌。结果如下：

长亭外，古道边，

Camino del Rey, the old parting place

芳草碧连天。

I come to bid you adiu

晚风拂柳笛声残，

In the breeze a flute song sad

夕阳山外山。

The sun is setting down

天之涯，地之角，

End of the sky, corners of the land

知交半零落；

Can you see the friends who are gone?

一杯浊酒尽余欢，

Cast like seeds we either die or grow

今宵别梦寒。

Here is a cup for you.

其中第一句，本来做“Standing by the road, the old parting place"。长亭意译。后来觉得“古道”的含义没有出来。反复哼唱对词后，忽然想到为什么不用Camino del rey? 节拍能对上，意思也不错，只是可能会被批评为“文化翻译”。不过这是出于读者对象的考虑。在加州，camino del rey 就是一条古道。

最后两句，有点自己发挥了。朋友相别，今生未卜，虽然如今有facebook 联络，生活工作中难免生死之事。这样的渲染，也是为了强调“别梦寒”。另外，Cast like seeds 这句，又暗含了圣经典故。

最后２句都么有把原意溢出来

一杯浊酒尽余欢，(a cup of dirty liquor to finish the left-over fun )

Cast like seeds we either die or grow

今宵别梦寒。(tonight, it will be warm) not sure what 别梦寒 mean? no dream of cold? or dream of 88 make him cold? ancient chinese is very vague)

知识渊博啊。只是，这李叔同并非翻译，倒是重新填词了。

哪里。你说得是，李叔同是重新填词。他是在日本留学时，先听了日本人重新填词的版本，又自己重新填词的。

【中外翻唱】之《梦见家和母亲》、《旅愁》、《送别》 - 老歌菌 - 掌灯时分的的后花园

1904年，日本音乐家犬童球溪將《Dreaming of Home and Mother》填上日文歌词, 歌名叫《旅愁》。1907年（明治40年）8月25日发行的《中等教育唱歌集》刊登了此曲。从此它在日本家喻户晓，成为日本著名的童谣，到现在仍然是日本中学音乐科必唱歌曲，出版的唱片版本以千计。犬童的新词如下：

更け行く秋の夜　旅の空のわびしき思いに　ひとりなやむ
恋しやふるさと　なつかし父母夢路にたどるは　故郷(さと)の家路
更け行く秋の夜　旅の空のわびしき思いに　ひとりなやむ

窓うつ嵐に　夢もやぶれ遥けき彼方に　こころ迷う
恋しやふるさと　なつかし父母(ちちはは) 思いに浮かぶは　杜(もり)のこずえ

叫人发晕的是，上面的日文歌词又被人译成了英文：

接着雷的是国内出版物将此英文歌词当做原曲歌词来译了：

秋夜凄凉，难入梦乡，长空闪星光。
独自一人苦思念，寂寞且悲伤。
我怀念啊，故乡亲人，回忆永远留在我心间。
秋夜踏着童年的路，梦里回故乡。
* 窗外秋雨，阵阵声响，游子梦荒凉。
独自漂泊在异地，我心在他方。
我怀念啊，故乡亲人，回忆永远留在我心间。
林中沙沙树叶声，梦里亦难忘。

李叔同于1905-1911年间在日本留学，学习油画兼修音乐戏剧，犬童球溪的《旅愁》发表后，他曾将歌词这样翻译：
            西风起，秋渐深，秋容动客心。独身惆怅叹飘零，寒光照孤影。
            忆故土，思故人，高堂会双亲。乡路迢迢何处寻，觉来梦断心。

   而后，在1915年左右的时候，李叔同又创作了《送别》，对原曲做了小的修改，又配上了新的歌词(李作原词只有第一段，现在看到的第二段是陈哲甫加作)。相较与其之前的翻译，新创作的歌词更适合吟诵和歌唱，与原曲的配合更和谐，词曲结合相得益彰，珠联璧合。巧合的是李叔同出生的1880年，也是J.P. Ordway 离世的那一年。

《送别》与《旅愁》在意境上已经不相同了。在日本又有“中国的《旅愁》”之称。
