| A while ago, I found an un-cashed check laying around. The check was already expired since it was issued 5 years ago. Since it involves a few hundred dollars, I thought I should make an effort to get the money back. After a few calls, I was routed to the state's Unclaimed Property department, which I did not know that it even existed! And better, after a database search of all the unclaimed checks, I found not one, but two under my name! All you need to do is to fill out forms and have them notarized before sending them in. So make sure to do a search on "Unclaimed Property" on all the states you have lived before. Maybe you can receive a few unexpected "free checks" from the government! |
