The moment I stepped off plane at Pudong International, I received a message
"welcome to China". I got connected to a Chinese network (mostly China
Unicom). I can make calls in China for 20 cents/minute and the sound quality
is excellent.

I also got free unlimited data. It can be 2G or 4G depending on your
location. For 2G, you can check email and browse news slowly. I happened to
have 4G at my mother's apartment so I can even listen to podcast. All this
is for $50/month.

The T-Mobile's sale person told me that a higher-end phone works better in
China as it can receive a wide range of frequencies. I picked Lumia 925 and it
was great.

I will let my son to bring the phone for his China and Japan trip next week.

The biggest advantage is free international roaming. Basically, in 160 counties in the world, you get unlimited data at either 2G or 4G speed depending on your luck or location. You also get free unlimited texting. The phone call is 20 cents/minute, as opposed to 2 dollars/minute from AT/T international plan.

This phone made a huge difference in my life in China. I made calls all the time and also got online constantly. It helped to make a statement that I am a successful person .

远不止2G呢。“I also got free unlimited data.”

T-Mobile 好象有那种pay-as-you-go的手机，也是$50/月全包。不知也跑用的是不是那一种。

他说的可能是网络的类型，不是流量。
