We also went to Estonia on our trip, its capital is called Tallin.
It had been conquered by its bigger neighbors all the way until lastcentury, when it briefly gained independence from chaotic USSR time,then got sucked up by USSR again after WWII.
It used to be at least as advanced as Finland before then, it hasbeen on a growing binge after regaining independence in the 90s. It isgreat that it kept its 600 years old town in tact. I enjoyed it verymuch. In fact I recommend Tallin over Helsinki. It is a lot cheapertoo, it gave my wallet a well needed breather.
The old town actually consists of 2 parts, lower and upper. Lowertown is centered around the town square and upper town is center aroundthe Orthodox church. They used to fight between them. | |
