Jack Wong, 67, died at Danville, California onAugust 21, 2014 after a year long battle with cancer.
Born May 15, 1947 in Hong Kong to C. C. and Annie Wong, Jack was their only son, the youngest of four children. The family and 11-year-old Jack, who spoke no English, came to the United States as refugees in 1958. Jack graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in civil engineering, and rose to the position ofchief engineer at Shapell Industries when he wasonly 28. Jack then successfully moved into land acquisition for Kaiser Aetna and Ahmanson Developments. His real passion was for small businesses, where he honed his love for the intrigue of deal making, and beyond real estate development Jack’s ventures includedtelecommunications and automotive interests as a co-owner of Beverly Hills Porsche and Santa Monica Audi.
An avid adventurer and long-time entrepreneur, Jack was known for his love of life, depth of knowledge, keen sense of humor, determination, and gentle, calm, quiet demeanor, as well as being an outstanding raconteur. He will be especially remembered for his intelligence, generosity, and willingness to take risks, encyclopedic memory, but particularly how he enriched the lives of people who knew him. His worldwide adventures took him from the North Pole to the South Pole, to both Mt. Everest base camps, from Tibet to Nepal and the Annapurna Circuit, across the Alps from Chamonix toZermatt and to numerous other countries around the world during his lifetime. He heli-skied over two million vertical feet, sailed competitively on the Mongoose and dove 400 feet in Yap with two Navy SEALS. As a renaissance man he had agreat understanding of history, an in-depthappreciation for the arts, and was fascinated withthe myriad people he encountered along the way. His friends feel privileged to have known him for his courage, clarity of thought, integrity, and positive spirit. Jack helped many people launch their dreams by offering financial support, wisdom and insight.
