When I was in Wuxi, I often visited a "Music Tea Seats" near my mother's apartment. It is a bar with a huge LCD screen and loud music. You pay 15-yuan entry fee and they assign you to one of 7-8 tables. Usually people come in a small group of 4-5 people and they will occupy a table. Individual customers (san ke) like me usually are seated on the last table near the door. Anyway, for 15 yuans you can consume as much tea as you like. You can then book your song (no extra charge). The microphone will be passed from table to table. If you sing well, people will wave a specicial noise-making fan to applaud (meaning I am your fan). You can stay as long as you like before they close at 6 pm for reopening for the night shift at 7.00 pm.

I usually went in the afternnon as it is easier to find older people who enjoy the same kind of songs. The crowd in the evening is usually younger.

You do not have to spend that amount of money to have a good time in China.

Depends on what you mean by "a good time."

That may be considered a good time if you were an old timer.  But I thought you were a "forever young revolutionary."
