A professor died on job and the department was planning a memorial service. A young professor, however, refused to go. He insisted that the dead professor was mean and does not deserve his respect. Other professors all tried to persuade him to go. Their talking point was:  it is a decent thing to do. But the young professor simply would not budge.

It was then my turn and that is what I said. According to a speech by Chairman Mao in the 30s,  a memorial serves two purposes: to morn the dead and to unit the living. Even if you do not care about the first, you should go for department unity. He not only agreed to go, he wanted to go to the service to talk about Chiarman Mao's teaching. Now, I was getting nervous.

My new netbook was "dead on arrival". I called Acer's support line and before long a strong Indian voice picked up the phone. Wow, the support center must be in Indian, just as I read somewhere, I said to myself. The first order of business was to put my name in their computer system. After I gave him my name, he reads back to confirm: J as in jack, I as in India. At this moment I almost burst into a big laugher: yeah, i as in India.

no, I have only one Acer LCE, pretty good. I buy only used IBM laptop, not even the new lenovo. lenovo is expensive and slow.

Serve the people" for 張思德 by Mao in 1944:

"All men must die, but death can vary in its significance. The ancient Chinese writer Szuma Chien (Sima Qian) said, "Though death befalls all men alike, it may be weightier than Mount Tai or lighter than a feather."  From now on, when anyone in our ranks who has done some useful work dies, be he soldier or cook, we should have a funeral ceremony and a memorial meeting in his honor. This should become the rule. And it should be introduced among the people as well. When someone dies in a village, let a memorial meeting be held. In this way we express our mourning for the dead and unite all the people.
