Do not tell me the Chinese Universities' academic level is now almost as high

After the sea turtle suicide incident in Zhejiang University, it is now known that a U.S. Ph.D. degree with several years of post doctor training can only get an instructor position in a top Chinese university. The reason for this, I was told, is that the current top Chinese universities are academically almost as good as a good university in US. Well, I believed that.

But this evening, I accidently came up this page 东南大学二〇〇八年度新增博士生导师. I am shocked. These are the highest level of full professors as they are the so called 博士生导师. But I feel most can not be promoted to an associate professor in a research university in US.

I was once presented key work from profs at a top department, which unfortunately could be characterized as master degree work at most inthe us. (from my iPhone)

Ok, deepocean, thanks for your first hand report. Anyway, the standard of these new 博士生导师 is really not high at all.
